90 minutes

If you can sit 90 minutes for a sports match, surely you can spare 90 minutes for salah. If you can follow an event doggedly for one month1, surely you can continue devotedly to pray for one month in Ramadan. If you can sacrifice sleep on a work night for instant results, surely you can forward the same courtesy and pray without delay when Allah almighty beckons.

The prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged us to increase salah in Ramadan. The sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) prayed tarawih and they therein read the entire Quran as the prophet (peace be upon him) did in his life. What excuse can we give for shortening this prayer or abandoning this privilege? Surely, it is not ability or circumstance. Allah almighty does not burden us with that which we cannot bear. He shows us through our actions that we do have the ability.

We have the ability to concentrate for 90 minutes. We have the ability maintain the zeal for one month. We have the ability to prioritise it over our other duties. In Ramadan, pray your tarawih, pray it the entire month and do not miss it even for the world cup.
